We beg leave to draw your attention to the restrictions placed on Foreign trade at the Newly Port of Kien-chow.
For some months we have been running the Steamer "Prince Kung" & "Lee King" to Haikow, the emporium or exchange, Kienchow, carrying cargo to and from entirely on private account.
A notification has however, now been issued by the Chinese authorities at Canton prohibiting resort to sale at the entrepot and prohibiting any Foreign or Chinese merchants to ship or receive any cargo whatever in foreign vessels. We have seen the Commissioner of Customs at Canton, and are informed
